The Celtic Invincible winner has detailed the invaluable advice he continues to receive from Brendan Rodgers

Kolo Toure will always show a level of gratitude towards Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers for giving him his first coaching - and he has revealed the advice he still gets from the Northern Irishman since being sacked for the first time as manager.

Ex-Hoops star Toure - part of the club’s Invincible winning side during the 2016/17 season - was handed his first crack at management with Wigan Athletic in November 2022 after hanging up his boots and taking his first steps into coaching under Rodgers at Parkhead before later moving with him to Leicester City.

He was axed after just two months into a three-and-a-half year deal following a nightmare start to his tenure which resulted in the Latics sitting bottom of the Championship. The Arsenal and Ivory Coast legend was shown the door after failing to win any of his first nine games and remains out of work after the disastrous spell.

Wigan now find themselves in EFL League One with another former Celtic ace at the helm after Shaun Maloney replaced him in the hot-seat, but he couldn't prevent them from dropping down to the third tier.

Now 43, Toure admitted in an interview with Sky Sports he is eager to get back into management. Asked if he still keeps in touch with any of his former managers, Toure replied: “Of course Arsene Wenger, still talking to Mr Wenger. I speak to Brendan Rodgers, of course.

“They tell me try to keep fit, try to keep your mind busy. Do a lot of gym sport and look after your health first. Then keep applying for jobs. That's the advice that they give me, looking after yourself, your faith and keep applying for jobs.

“When I have a task to do or when I work for somebody, I work with all my power and strength to just make sure I can please my chairman and the guy who employs me. When somebody employs you, that person is giving you the responsibility to look after his business.

“And you have to do everything to make sure that you worked. I'm like that. When somebody trusts me, I need to back that up. Arsene Wenger trusts me. When I came from Africa, no-one knew about me. The rest is history.”
