Clyde 1 Montrose 2: Clyde slide to second bottom

Clyde paid the price for a poor first-half performance as their dismal run of results continued against Montrose at Broadwood on Tuesday.

The Bully Wee were beaten 2-1 - their ninth defeat in 11 league games - and are now second bottom of the League 2 table.

Assistant manager Bob Malcolm took charge of the team following the departure of Barry Ferguson after Saturday’s defeat at Annan.

But the change at the managerial helm didn’t herald any upturn in fortunes on the pitch.

Montrose took just five minutes to go in front, Kerr Hay netting for the Angus side to give Clyde just the start they didn’t want.

Sean Higgins was just wide with a header as Clyde tried to hit back before home keeper John Gibson did well to divert a Greg Pascazio header over.

However Montrose doubled their advantage three minutes before the break, Pascazio netting after Chris Templeman headed a Kieran McWalter corner back across goal.

Clyde desperately needed a response after the break but only another Gibson save from a Pascazio header prevented the visitors going three up.

But the Bully Wee gave themselves a lifeline 16 minutes from time as Peter MacDonald beat Montrose keeper Jordan Millar with a powerful header.

MacDonald then almost snatched a point for Clyde with a free-kick which went just wide.

But in the end Clyde once again were on the losing end and since beating Berwick at the end of November have now taken two points out of a possible 33.

Next up is the visit of league leaders Forfar Athletic to Broadwood on Saturday.
