Clyde going for two in a row against Cowdenbeath

Saturday’s 3-1 success over Edinburgh City moved the Bully Wee up to eighth in the League 2 table and gave them a seven-point cushion over bottom side Cowdenbeath - who lost at home to Montrose - ahead of the Fife side’s visit to Broadwood.

And relief was the overwhelming emotion after as Clyde finally picked up their first League 2 win since November 19.

A run of 14 matches since then had yielded 11 defeats and just three draws, two of them goalless encounters against opponents Edinburgh City.

Clyde once again found the league new boys to their liking as they came from behind to record the first win of interim bosses John Paul McGovern and Peter MacDonald’s tenure in charge.

And McGovern admitted afterwards: “Yeah it’s a bit of a relief, definitely.

“In the past when we’ve lost a goal we maybe put our heads down a wee bit.

“This time myself and Peter pointed out what we were doing wrong and posed a few questions of the boys.

“It’s not rocket science. It’s a case of trusting your players, trying to get the best out of them and we ended up ggave then etting the right response and reaction in the second half.”

Peter MacDonald also spoke of his relief to end the winless run and even managed to make a little bit of history of his own, becoming the first player since Brian Carrigan in the 1999-2000 season to score 20-plus goals in a season for Clyde.

Speaking about the milestone he stated: “It’s always good when you hit your wee target.

“Long may it continue but to be totally honest it doesn’t matter who scores as long as we keep picking up three points.

“Today has been a long time coming and to say it’s a weight off our shoulders is an understatement.”

The Bully Wee’s nightmare run since their 3-2 triumph over Berwick in November saw them plunge down the League 2 table, as they went from promotion candidates to being in danger of ending up in the relegation play-off spot.
