Scott Linton struck the winner on the day from the penalty spot, midway through the first-half but it wasn’t to be enough as the Bully Wee were defeated 3-2 on aggregate by the Spiders.

The result means that Clyde will once again spend next season in the lowest flight of the SPFL despite this season offering so much promise for Barry Ferguson’s side.

The Cumbernauld outfit were the better side for large swathes of the second leg at the National Stadium but were left to rue a lack of a cutting edge in both legs of the playoff final.

The hosts started the game on the front foot and could have found themselves 2 or 3 ahead by the time Clyde mustered their first attempt on goal - a glancing header onto the roof of the net by John Gemmell.

Clyde then asserted a dominance on proceedings and deservedly led when Scott Linton converted a penalty after referee Steven McLean saw a handball in the Queen’s box.

The Bully Wee pushed men forward in the closing stages, aiming for an equaliser but couldn’t find the opportunity to take the game to extra-time with Michael Bolochoweckyj seeing a second yellow for a foul on David Galt late on.
