Football tournament raises record amount for hospices

The organiser of the recent charity football tournament in support of CHAS and St Andrew’s Hospice has now confirmed the amount raised this year is higher than ever before.

As reported last week, some 16 teams visited Broadwood Stadium to play in the tournament.

Organiser John Bleasdale said: “I have now counted the money and can confirm that the event raised £1842, that’s £921 each to the charities Children’s Hospice Association Scotland and St Andrew’s Hospice.

“It’s a record total out of the six events I’ve held so I am delighted with the total. I want to thank everyone involved - the players who turned up, the volunteers who helped at the stall, the referees who waived their match fee and my fellow organisers Daniel McMillan, Graeme Scott and Derek Sands.”

The tournament was won by a team from Tesco Bank who defeated Aviva IBPL 3-2 in the final, the scoreline was 3-2.
