THE inaugural staging of the Carluke and Lanark Gazette’s Youth Football Awards was a successful sell-out with 150 guests.

Carluke Masonic Hall was packed out for an event which featured a meal and disco and had an impressive list of speakers including South Lanarkshire Provost Eileen Logan, Clydesdale SNP MSP Aileen Campbell and former SPL executive chairman Lex Gold.

The evening started with an introduction by compere Millar Stoddart, who welcomed representatives from Biggar United, Carluke Boys Club, Carluke United, Forth Community Club, Gow Valley, Kirkfield United, Milton Rovers and Symington Tinto.

Provost Logan thanked everyone for their attendance and spoke of her admiration for the skills of all the youngsters who turn out for Clydesdale teams. Aileen also spoke of her delight at being at the ceremony.

Special guest Ali Crawford, a Hamilton Accies midfielder and former Milton Rovers player, was on hand to present individual Player of the Year prizes to boys from each of the eight clubs present.

Winners were: Biggar United – Callum Craig; Carluke Boys Club – Jamie Kerr; Carluke United – Jack Sommerville; Forth Community Club – Jordan Lithgow; Gow Valley – Jamie MacDonald; Kirkfield United – James McLafferty; Milton Rovers – Joshua Bell; Symington Tinto – Ben McBride.

Event organiser Craig Goldthorp conducted a question and answer session with Ali Crawford before the final four awards were presented.

Milton Rovers received the Team of the Year trophy from Lex Gold, Councillor Pat Lee handed the Top Goalscorer prize to Graham Jess of Forth Community Club, Gazette editor Julie Currie presented the Coach of the Year trophy to Gow Valley’s Billy MacDonald and James McClafferty got the Clydesdale Player of the Year prize from Provost Logan.
