A very special event was held at Douglas Primary School on Saturday, the first Open Day by the Glenbuck Football Academy.

The youth soccer ‘nursery’ was inspired by the example of the legendary pre-war Cherrypickers team that gave the world the Liverpool FC icon Bill Shankly.

Explained Academy organiser Robert Gillan: “Glenbuck might be just over the Ayrshire border a few miles from here but that side always had strong Douglas connections.
