There was more success for Glasgow City at the weekend after their sensational Euro victories last week when they returned to domestic duty.

A 3-0 win over Hibernian means that City are sitting pretty seven points clear at the top of the SWPL.

Goals from Cheryl McCulloch, Jo Love and Denise O’Sullivan meant the Glasgow team walked away with all three points and the bragging rights.

City started the match against Hibs very much on the front foot and enjoyed a number of chances to take the lead — denied only by some excellent goalkeeping from 20-year-old Hannah Reid 
between the stick for the Hibees.

Two saves in the opening 10 minutes, in particular, kept her side in the game and Reid went on to look very assured saving from Abbi Grant in the followed by Fairlie in quick succession on 17 minutes.

While comfortable in possession, it wasn’t until the 40th minute mark that City finally broke the deadlock 
— and it came from a set 
piece.

Fairlie’s corner was met by the head of Nelson and, once again, Reid got down to save well but could do nothing to prevent Cheryl McCulloch firing home the rebound from close range.

Although it took time to open the scoring, some 60 seconds later the Glasgow gals had founf the net again as Jo Love hit a screamer of a shot from 20 yards past Reid and into the back of the net.

The second half remained a similar pattern to the first and although Hibs looked dangerous on the break, with the pace of Lizzie Arnot in particular, Alexander in the City goal was rarely troubled.

It was of little surprise, therefore, when City scored again and it was a fine goal as Denise O’Sullivan rose highest to head home an excellent 
Fiona Brown cross from the left.

Commenting on the win, City’s head coach Eddie Wolecki Black said: “I am happy with today’s performance.

“We had to work hard for the three points.

“The turning point was the second goal just before the break which knocked 
the stuffing out of Hibs a 
bit.

“We were a little stretched, squad-wise, today with Eilish McSorley dropping off the bench due to illness.

“Thankfully, we saw the game out and we can now look forward to Wednesday’s game against Rangers.”

Glasgow City took on Rangers at Lochinch Sports Ground yesterday evening as ExtraSport went to print.
