Beaks say new West of Scotland League will start no earlier than October 24

It remains unclear as to when the newly established West of Scotland League – featuring 67 clubs including local sides Bellshill Athletic and Thorniewood United – will kick-off.

A survey submitted to all participating clubs last week asked for their views on a preferred start date and how long, if at all, they could operate without fans at matches.

Results showed an even split between the two suggested start dates of October 10 and October 31, with the latter date suggested to give extra time for the potential of fans to be present at games.

However the league says this remains a huge issue with 70 per cent of clubs saying they would not support a return without supporters present.

The WoSFL has now proposed that the league should start no earlier than Saturday, October 24.

A statement said: “This will allow time for any financial package details to become clearer, and will also avoid any complications regarding the SoccerShop Challenge Cup, where we have 13 members clubs competing in Round One.”

Scottish football’s Joint Response Group is currently lobbying hard for a Scottish Government rescue package and the return of supporters on match days.
