Weir told the Carluke and Lanark Gazette: “James is a former Rovers player from about 10 years ago and I played with him.

“James is very direct, he’s not afraid to go and try different things so he will bring something different to the table for me.

“He also can play on both sides, he’s two footed which is a bonus to me as well.

“James will bring a bit of quality to the side hopefully.”

In addition, Weir said that retaining Jordan Conlon for next season in his 20-man squad is “a great boost”.

The gaffer added: “Jordan can play in several positions.

“I brought him in from Lanark last December as a striker and I’ll be looking to still play him up top.

“I’m more than happy with the squad that is signed up.”

And ex-Airdrie man David Earl has joined Rovers as a goalkeeping coach.

“It’s something I’ve always looked at,” Weir said.

“The goalkeepers were just training themselves so it is a big boost getting someone like David on board.”

Rovers hope to restart training next Monday.
