Coronavirus: Motherwell FC to receive early SPFL payment of £395,000 plus VAT

With no gate receipts from playing no matches due to the Coronavirus crisis, Motherwell FC have received an advance payment of £395,000 plus VAT as an advanced payment from the SPFL.

Third placed Motherwell and the Scottish Premiership's other top three sides - Celtic and Rangers - are receiving the amount which was due to be paid in April but is being allocated early.

Many clubs have been experiencing financial difficulty as Scottish football has been suspended since March 13.

The rest of the top flight clubs will get £157,500 plus VAT.

The payments dip significantly down the divisions. Championship clubs are due to be paid £26,500 plus VAT, League One clubs £2,700 plus VAT and League Two clubs £1,350 plus VAT.

Clubs will also be due end of season prizemoney payments but it is unclear when they will be paid with continued uncertainty over when the season will end.
