“It is a major signing for us,” ’Gow manager Robert Irving told the Carluke and Lanark Gazette.

“Lewis was one of Lanark’s better players last year and scored a right few goals.

“Myself and Davie (’Gow assistant manager Jackson) tried to sign him a few years ago but he opted for Lanark.

“We had the opportunity to go back in for him and we’ve managed to get it done this time which we’re happy about.

“I was pleasantly surprised when Lewis opted for the ’Gow because I know there were other teams sniffing about.

“I don’t know why he picked us. When he said he was coming to the ’Gow I didn’t stand and ask him questions, I just put the forms in front of him and that was it.”

’Gow have also signed midfielder Dominic Febers from Bellshill Athletic, with gaffer Irving hopeful of bringing in a new defender this week to bring the number of players in the squad up to 17.

He added: “I’ve got good defenders at the club but it’s just to keep the competition going.

“Competition for places is healthy.”
