The Steelmen – who had 46 points from 30 matches to sit one point clear of fourth placed Aberdeen – have now been nominated as one of Scotland’s participants for the 2020/21 UEFA Europa League qualifying round.

Manager Stephen Robinson told the club website: “It is an incredible achievement to finish third in the Premiership.

“Regardless of how it came to an end, this squad have earned their place with their performances across the season.

“Our target every year is to stay in the division, although we always have aspirations to surpass that.

“But to come third given the parameters we work under, and the quality of the teams we have finished above, speaks volumes for the hard working, talented group of players and staff we have.”

Ending the season – which came about after an SPFL board meeting on Monday – also means that leaders Celtic are declared champions and bottom club Hearts are relegated.
