Motherwell FC: New signing Ricki Lamie can't wait to get started!

New Motherwell signing Ricki Lamie - who started his career at Lanarkshire rivals Airdrie - can't wait to get started with his new club.

Lamie (26), who has joined the Steelmen on a two-year deal after leaving Livingston, was a solid performer for the Lions last season as they secured a top half finish and is making a step up as he joins the team that finished third in the Scottish Premiership.

He told the Motherwell FC website: "“I’m really looking forward to getting started and being part of the continued success of the club, on and off the pitch.

“It will be a bit strange coming in to a new club given the present circumstances. But I’m excited at being able to meet up with the boys in training soon."

Lamie's career began with Airdrie, for whom he made 24 league appearances between January 2012 and August 2013 before moving to Queen's Park.

After just 12 outings for the Spiders he returned to Airdrie in January 2014 before a brief loan spell at East Stirling.

Lamie then served Morton for four years, making over 100 appearances from July 2014 to July 2018. Then came his successful spell with Livi, which ended with them finishing fifth in the Premiership in the shortened 2019-20 season.

Training is expected to resume next week for Motherwell's players after the coronavirus sabbatical, with Lamie - who can play on the left or centre of defence - teaming up again with his ex-Livingston mate Declan Gallagher.

And Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson is delighted with the Lamie signing.

He said:“Ricki is someone I’ve followed since watching him at Morton.

“I believe he will add to our defence and can play in numerous positions, including centre back and left back.

“He gives us balance to the left side and has very good Premiership experience. He’s also a good age, with great enthusiasm to keep improving, which impressed me.”
