British documentary photographer and photojournalist Martin Parr has created his own alternative football team photo for Partick Thistle fans to keep as a memento of the season.

The first 2000 fans through the turnstiles received the limited edition collectible to take home with them for free at the Hamilton match on Saturday.

As the final part of a series of fan giveaways, Martin is the first to actually create his art project in Glasgow, just metres from the stadium itself, outside the Main Stand at Firhill.

He decided to take the traditional clean-cut team photo and add his own touch by capturing the squad in one of the older, grittier locations around the ground.

Martin said: “I photographed Partick Thistle Football Club about 20 years ago, so was intrigued to come back and produce a photo as a giveaway for the hard core supporters of this famous club.

“I have often photographed sporting events, as much for the people, the fans and supporters as the actual action, so the idea of doing an alternative team photo was very appealing.”

Crossing the paths of art and football was the brainchild of California-based Mike Wilkins, managing partner of Jags’ main sponsor, Kingsford Capital Management.

Mike said: “We’ve teamed up with other artists that have helped create unique giveaways for the fans but it’s a first for an artist to create their giveaway in the shadow of the stadium.

“Martin is famed for his documentary style photography, so it will be a fantastic piece of art which fans can cherish for years to come as a lasting memento of a day at Firhill.”
