Rob Roy had plenty of possession as they searched for an early opener, but passed off a great chance to do so in the fifth minute. Duff threaded a pass through to Sawyers, but with only White to beat he gave the keeper time to block his shot.

Rabs continued to take the game to their opponents, with Jarvis’s snapshot blocked and Urquhart driving a Sawyers lay-off just wide.

The running power of ex-Rob Roy player Chris Mackie was causing problems for the visitors defence. From a Finnigan cross his header was easily saved by McPherson then he attempted to lob McPherson, but again the keeper was equal to his efforts.

Before the interval home keeper White had to be alert to save Urquhart’s low drive.

Three minutes into the second half, Peasy broke the deadlock when Mackie – through on goal – was brought down in the box by McPherson, giving the referee an easy penalty decision to make.

McPherson was shown a yellow card, but the Rabs keeper will deem himself fortunate to have remained on the park. Mackie hammered the resultant spot-kick past McPherson.

The Adamslie Park side kept on the attack, but found the home rear-guard difficult to break down with central defenders McCabe and Chisolm outstanding.

White blocked an Urquhart effort then made a smart save from Mitchell’s 30-yard volley. At the other end McQuilken blasted the ball over the bar when in a good scoring position.

With 11 minutes remaining Rabs snatched the equaliser. Deas sent over a corner kick from the right and as the Petershill defenders hesitated Willie Sawyers rose to nod the ball into the net. The goal sparked new life into Rabs and it was Peasy who were on the back-foot in the closing stages, although both teams had chances to take all three points.

In the 86th minute McGladrigan through on goal sent a hurried lob well over McPherson’s bar then a minute later McKenzie carved out a chance for Deas, but he failed to keep his shot on target. In the end both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.
