Looking back: Motherwell beat St Johnstone to reach Scottish Cup Final

The day of April 16, 2011 was a memorable one for Motherwell fans as their favourites beat St Johnstone 3-0 at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

It was expected beforehand to be a tight affair. But it was anything but as Stuart McCall's side romped to a 3-0 lead before half-time.

They were two up inside 14 minutes, Stephen Craigan heading home after five minutes following an error by Saints keeper Peter Enckelman and Jamie Murphy firing home a second nine minutes later.

The game was finished a contest just before half-time when John Sutton smashed home a third from 30 yards - and Well saw out the second half to reach their first final since winning the trophy 20 years previously.

But there was disappointment when they got there as Celtic beat them 3-0 to lift the trophy.

The semi-final teams were:

Motherwell: Randolph, Hammell, Craigan, Hutchinson, Hateley, Humphrey (Jones), Jennings (Ross), Lasley, Murphy, Sutton, Jeffers (McHugh). Subs not used: Hollis, Gunning.

St Johnstone: Enckelman, MacKay, Grainger, Duberry, Anderson, Morris, Craig, Moon (May), Davidson, Invincibile, Samuel (Robertson), Subs not used: Smith, Maybury, Caddis.

Referee: Iain Brines.

Attendance: 11,920
