Manager Robbo celebrates a year in charge of Motherwell against Aberdeen

Following McGhee’s dismissal, his then assistant manager Stephen Robinson was given the gaffer’s role, initially on an interim basis.

Motherwell were struggling down in second bottom place in the league following a 5-1 home hammering by Dundee, which proved to be McGhee’s final game in charge.

Robinson, who will celebrate his 51st game as Motherwell manager against Aberdeen, saved the Steelmen from relegation in his first season before leading them to the Betfred Cup final in this campaign.

The Fir Parkers have also reached the quarter-finals of the William Hill Scottish Cup under his leadership and still harbour hopes of a top six finish.

He said on Tuesday: “We can beat anyone on our day, especially at home, where we have a very good record.

“It’s going to be a tough, tough game against Aberdeen. There was nothing in our games against them earlier this season, although people raved about our performance in the 3-0 win.

“There wasn’t a lot in it and we scored at the right times, but goals changed games and we took advantage in that particular game.”

Asked how things had changed in the year he has been in charge of ’Well, Robinson added: “I looked like Elvis before I took the job, I had jet black hair! It’s a very good football club."
