Pitch in for award

Local amateur football clubs are being given the opportunity to bid for a £3000 pitch makeover as part of a Pitch to Win competition to find the UK’s worst football pitch.

Organisers Briggs and Stratton, one of the world’s leading producers of petrol lawn mowers, are calling upon under-18 amateur footballers to nominate their pitch if they think it is in drastic need of improvement.

The winning team will receive not only the new pitch but also sponsorship for the 2014-15 season and a new team kit, runners-up will win a £500 boost for the club as well as sponsorship and a new team kit.

Ian Small, UK sales and marketing manager, said: “With health and obesity warnings in the UK on the increase, particularly for children, it is becoming imperative that playing facilities improve to help to raise fitness levels.

“Not only that, a successful local football club really enhances a community.”
