Pollok defeat Ardeer

Pollok extended their lead at the summit of the Superleague First Division with a 3-0 victory over Ardeer Thistle at Newlandsfield Park. For the second successive week the ‘Lok struck early, Kevin Bradley’s dummy allowing Davie Winters to pass the ball low into the corner of the Ardeer goal for a 3rd minute lead.

With no further scoring in the first half it took Pollok until the 49th minute to double the advantage. John Sweeney whipped in a free-kick from out wide that deceived the visiting defence and nestled in the corner of the net via the merest of touches by first Jamie Darroch, and then Bradley.

Ardeer’s deficit was extended further 6 minutes later, Kieran McAleenan playing a corner on the deck that Sweeney dummied into the path of Winters whose crisp finish accounted for his second of the afternoon.

Thistle’s hopes of getting back into the game were dashed in the 67th minute when David Smith’s foul on McAleenan was deemed worthy of a second yellow card by arbiter Stephen Graham, and the visiting midfielder was sent for an early bath. Pollok did attempt to capitalise on this numerical advantage, but to no avail.

Newlandsfield again hosts League action this Saturday when Yoker Athletic pay the ‘Lok a visit. Kick off for this match is 2pm.
