5 wingers Rangers could sign as two former stars and Celtic target could solve Derek McInnes headache
The Light Blues are looking to strengthen key area
Rangers boss Derek McInnes is tasked with finding a winger to sign sooner rather than later before things get desperate for his new club.
The new gaffer has signed goalkeeper Ivor Pandur, defenders Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey and Olwethu Nakhanya, midfielders Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin and Vanja Dragojevic, to add to striker Lawrence Shankland - who was already in the building. The general theme between the new additions is that they’re mostly leaders, while a good chunk will already know the demands of the club. However there’s another common denominator - NONE are wingers.
After last season’s Spurs loanee Mikey Moore returned to North London, the Light Blues are tasked with replacing his technical ability. This was highlighted in their Premiership 1-1 stalemate away to Dundee United on Friday night, where there was a noticeable lack of creativity and tempo within the attack. Currently, Djeidi Gassama, Findlay Curtis and Ross McCausland remain the only options on the flanks. Finnish wide man Oliver Antman left for Anderlecht for £4m, while Nedim Bajrami is nearing a move to Saudi Arabia.
The manager is well aware this is an area in which they desperately need to strengthen. Rangers have been linked with winger here, there and everywhere, including former players and Celtic transfer targets. Here’s a look at five of them:
Vaclav Cerny (Besiktas)
The left-sided Czech right winger enjoyed a loan spell at Ibrox from Germany’s VFL Wolfsburg during the 2024/25 season, where he netted 18 goals and registered nine assists in 52 appearances. Now on the big bucks in the Turkish Super Lig, he’s an ambitious target for the Light Blues, but signing him would be a huge statement of intent.

Mikey Moore (Tottenham Hotspur)
Another former loanee and another ambitious target. Former boss Danny Rohl said he’d do ‘everything’ in his power to re-acquire the 18-year old. While interest remains under McInnes, the 18-year old is also the subject if Interest from Bundesliga side FC Koln, who’ve agreed terms with Tottenham for him.
Fares Ghedjemis (Frosinone)
Celtic had a bid rejected for the 23-year old Algerian in January, but he wanted to stay at Frosinone to aid their promotion push. After being successful in that, Rangers have now shown an interest in him too. However, this has sparked their rivals to reignite their interest. Serie A new boys value Ghedjemis at around £8m.
Amario Cozier-Duberry (Brighton and Hove Albion)
A successful loan spell at Bolton Wanderers last season caught the attention of the Light Blues. The 21-year old is blessed with lightning pace and proved he had an end product, with 20 goal contributions in 41 appearances during his short term Wanderers spell.

Jahnoah Markelo (Coventry City)
The Dutchman came through the world-renowned youth ranks at Ajax and is fairly well-travelled despite only being 23-years of age. He helped Frank Lampards’ Sky Blues win promotion to the Premier League last season but isn’t likely to be part of his plans for the upcoming campaign, meaning Rangers could pounce.
