Danny Rohl posts heartfelt Rangers fan address after Ibrox exit as he issues ‘stronger position’ stance

Departed Ibrox boss reflects on eight-month spell in Glasgow after RB Salzburg unveiling

Danny Rohl is confident he has left Rangers in a “stronger position” than when he took over last October - despite leading the Ibrox club to an underwhelming third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.

The German boss quit the Light Blues to join Austrian Bundesliga side RB Salzburg earlier this week, with Derek McInnes quickly named as his permanent successor on a three-year deal.

Rohl helped steady the ship in Govan following a disastrous start to the season under previous boss Russell Martin. The 37-year-old former Bayern Munich assistant dragged them back into the title race before a late post-split collapse in form cost them hopes of silverware.

Rangers ended the campaign trophyless once again as they finished behind Old Firm rivals Celtic and Hearts in the league table, but Rohl insists he is proud of the work he carried out across an eight-month spell in Glasgow.

His appointment as Salzburg boss came after former Liverpool manager and current Red Bull head of global soccer Jurgen Klopp pushed for Rohl to replace the sacked Daniel Beichler.

The departed gaffer issued a farewell message to Rangers fans on social media following the completion of his move. Posting on his Instagram account, Rohl said: “As I move on to a new chapter, I wanted to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone connected with @rangersfc.

“It’s been an incredible honour to be part of this amazing club. Thank you to the players, staff and, of course, the brilliant supporters for the way you welcomed and backed us.

“It was a privilege to experience your passion and have you by our side. I would also like to thank Andrew for giving me the opportunity and his support throughout my time at the club.

“I’m proud of the work we all did together over the past year. While there is always more to achieve, I believe the club is in a stronger position and well placed for what lies ahead.

“I will take with me many great memories and a huge amount of respect for this club and everyone connected to it. I wish you all nothing but success for the future. All the best, Danny.”
