The former Rangers and Derby County star has signed for a new team.

A former Rangers star has finally found a new club, months after leaving Derby County.

Martyn Waghorn has been a free agent since leaving the Rams at the end of last season. He has now joined English League One club Northampton Town on a short-term contract, having scored 133 goals in a career where he has played over 500 times for the likes of Sunderland, Charlton Athletic, Leicester City, Hull City, Millwall, Rangers, Ipswich Town, Coventry City, Huddersfield Town and Derby County.

In his time at Rangers, he netted 44 goals in 78 games. Cobblers manager Jon Brady is delighted to have a man with the experience that Waghorn possesses, some of which includes winning the Championship and Challenge Cup at Ibrox.

He said: "Martyn is a player with bags of experience and a lot of quality. He has played in the Championship for most of his career and he will bring that knowledge and pedigree with him.

"The squad is stretched a little at the moment, both in terms of the number of players missing in forward positions and the busy schedule, and we feel Martyn can help us through this hectic period.

"He is another player who will be a good influence in the dressing room, we feel he is a good fit for us and what we need at this time and we are pleased to bring him in. We are very grateful to the board of directors for their support in allowing us to add to the squad again."
