Ibrox linked star's old Rangers-daft social media post resurfaces as Celtic urged to recall forgotten man
The latest news stories from both Rangers and Celtic as the January transfer window opens.
Rangers have been given a transfer boost as one of their targets appears to have once been a strong admirer of the club, meanwhile a former Celtic striker thinks they should recall a loan player.
Danny Rohl is set to have a busy window with Rangers already linked with a plethora of stars. The Govan side are still trying to acquire the services of Josh Windass from Wrexham and Tuur Rommens from Westerlo. Motherwell’s Elliot Watt has also been linked with an Ibrox move after an impressive start to the season for The Steelman.
On the other side of the city, Wilfried Nancy has already brought in first new addition as Celtic boss in the form of AFC Bournemouth right back, Julian Araujo on loan. The 24-year old Mexico International can play the wing back role that Nancy wants and will give them more options defensively. Former Celtic star Frank McAvennie believes the club should recall one of their defenders that’s currently out on loan to give them even more depth at the back. Here’s a look at the latest stories coming out of Ibrox and Celtic Park.
Watt’s Rangers-daft social media post resurfaces
Rangers may have a leg up on anyone else that wants to sign Elliot Watt, as the a post on X from the Motherwell midfielder from 2016 has resurfaced amid his Ibrox links. It occurred when Rangers defeated Celtic on penalties in the Scottish Cup semi-final.
A 16-year old Watt wrote: ‘come on the Rangers!!’ on the morning of the game, showing where his loyalties lie when it comes to the Glasgow grudge match. The post now has over 600 likes, with Rangers fans jokingly commenting ‘need a wee lift to Ibrox pal?’ This is not an isolated incident as he has at least five other social media posts cheering on ‘The Gers’.
Watt signed for Motherwell in the summer after his contract was terminated by Burton Albion. Since then, the midfielder has been an integral part of Jens Berthel Askou’s high-flying side and been praised for his composure on the ball and range of passing.
Celtic urged to recall Nawrocki
Maik Nawrocki may be something a forgotten man at Celtic Park, but he is still currently contracted to the Hoops. The Polish defender never had a chance to get a run of games under his belt at Parkhead and is now on loan at Hannover 96. Frank McAvennie believes with the current frailties Celtic are displaying that Nancy should consider recalling the 24-year old.
Speaking on the Let me be Frank podcast, McAvennie said: “you know what I think of Nawrocki. I would bring him back. I would bring him back and say, ‘Look, come back. Clean sheet.’ He played seven games in a row, and he was outstanding.
“He got Man of the Match four times. I just like him. He is no-nonsense. He reminds me of big Johan Mjallby. He would just go, and when he won the ball, he could pass it. I just think he is a proper defender. It’s something we need.”
