Rangers agree new two-year deal with 'invaluable' member of Danny Rohl's squad as he declares 'I love being here'
Goalkeeper extends Ibrox stay ahead of World Cup as he follows in footsteps of international team-mate
Liam Kelly has committed his future to Rangers by signing a new two-year contract until 2028.
The 30-year-old back-up goalkeeper made just three appearances last season and was in the final stages of the contract, but has now put pen to paper to extend his stay at Ibrox.
A new deal for Kelly follows the recent arrival of his international team-mate, Lawrence Shankland from Premiership rivals, Hearts. The striker signed a two-year contract, with the option of a third earlier this summer.
Commenting on his new deal, Kelly told club’s official website: “I'm delighted to extend my stay here at Rangers. Coming back to the club has been a special experience and I love being here.
“We've got a really strong and competitive goalkeeping department, which pushes us all to improve every day, and it's certainly an environment I enjoy being part of.
“It's exciting to commit to what the club is desperate to achieve, and I'm looking forward to continuing to work as hard as I can with my teammates to do our utmost to create special memories for our fans in the years ahead.”
What has Rangers boss, Danny Rohl said?
Head coach Danny Rohl added: “We're thrilled that Liam has signed a contract extension. He is a consummate professional who sets a brilliant example in his everyday work. Whether it’s on the pitch, on the training ground or supporting his teammates behind the scenes, his attitude and commitment never waver.
“Liam’s experience and knowledge of this football club are invaluable. He understands exactly what it means to represent the badge, and we're pleased that he'll continue to play a key role as we look to achieve our goals.”
The extension comes as Kelly prepares for Scotland's World Cup opener against Haiti in Boston this weekend. He is expected to find himself behind Angus Gunn and Craig Gordon in the pecking order this summer as Steve Clarke’s side also gear up for Group Stage fixtures with Morocco and Brazil.
