Rangers hero's chances of stunning Ibrox transfer return assessed as 'huge offer' required for star
Rangers have been linked with a transfer move for a favourite of the fans at Ibrox.
A Rangers hero’s chances of making a blockbuster return to Ibrox this transfer window have been assessed.
Vaclav Cerny shone on loan at the Light Blues during the 24/25 season from Wolfsburg with 18 goals and nine assists. The Czech winger made a permanent move to Turkish side Besiktas last summer but talk of an exit has circulated with Rangers rumoured as one interested suitor.
Fans would love to have the star who became a hero for the season he was at Premiership level but Pete O’Rourke reckons there are financial challenges in front of boss Derek McInnes. His wages and the money Besiktas will demand could see Rangers move on to other targets between now and the end of this transfer window.
Could Vaclav Cerny return to Rangers this summer transfer window?
O’Rourke told the Inside Track: "It’s a difficult deal to do for Rangers for several reasons. Financially, obviously, it'll be very challenging. It would take a huge offer from Rangers to persuade Besiktas to cash in on him, so that's why I think it's a difficult deal to do for Rangers. He's on a big contract at Besiktas, and obviously Besiktas signed him for around 5 million euros last year.
“They'll be looking to recoup all of that if not more if they were to sell Cerny. The finances of the deal would make it a hard one for Rangers to try and push and get over the line. So Rangers and Derek McInnes as well be looking elsewhere to strengthen their attacking options in these final weeks of the window."
New signings Cammy Devlin and Ivor Pandur join up with Rangers this week alongside Thelo Aasgard after their World Cup campaigns. Boss McInnes said to club media: “I want us to be more together as a squad. I think what we have got is a lot of good individuals here, and we saw signs of that last season. Rangers at times were really strong, and I thought individually some players were playing at a good level, but when it came to it we needed to be more of a team.

What does Derek McInnes want from his Rangers team?
“I just want us to try and really build that work ethic and the togetherness that gets you through tough times. Ivor got a couple of weeks off, Cammy got a week off, and Thelo took a week off as well, but he was eager to come back into it, and we are delighted to get them back in the building, and that will give another bit of quality, and it just bolsters the squad.
“The club have done brilliant work at this moment in time to bring the additions that we clearly needed from last season, but we want to make sure we have a more rounded squad and when it comes to the bit that we are ready. The work will be ongoing; we are still looking to try and get a couple of things done ahead of the St Etienne game on Wednesday, but we are two weeks away from Dundee United, and I feel the fitness of the players is a lot better and a lot stronger.”
