Rangers plot Wolves transfer raid but path to summer deal complicated amid Molineux cash demand

The defender is contracted to Wolves but has made an impression at Rangers.

Rangers are said to be keen on a permanent move for a Wolves player this summer - but cash demands could make it tough.

Head coach Danny Rohl is in the midst of a Premiership title charge right now, a point off leaders Hearts, and centre-back Nasser Djiga has emerged as a key figure at the back. His loan spell from Wolves under previous boss Russell Martin started off shaky but he’s since formed a strong centre-back partnership with Emmanuel Fernandez.

His loan ends this summer and the Burkina Faso international will head back to Wolves, who signed him from Red Star Belgrade in Serbia, surrounded in uncertainty. Wolves are planning for life in the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League and 226 Foot claim Rangers are keen to strike a permanent deal. The Molineux side being keen to recoup their investment which throws a financial spanner in the works.

Will Nasser Djiga sign a permanent deal at Rangers?

It’s stated: “On loan this season to Rangers FC, Burkina Faso international defender Nasser Djiga has clearly taken his game to another level. Solid, dedicated, and increasingly influential, the Stallion has established himself as a pillar of the Scottish club's backline, both in the league and in European competitions.

“With 37 appearances across all competitions, Djiga has consistently delivered top-level performances, confirming the potential he showed when he transferred to Wolverhampton Wanderers. At just 23 years old, he already displays impressive maturity in his game, combining defensive discipline, physical presence, and excellent game reading.

“Impressed by his performances, Rangers' management now want to make the loan a permanent transfer, according to exclusive information from 226foot . But the deal is far from simple. Wolverhampton, who invested around €12 million to secure the Burkinabe player's services, fully intend to recoup their investment.

What have Rangers said about Nasser Djiga?

“Between the need to rebuild and the ambition to quickly return to the Premier League, the English club must decide: keep Djiga as a key player in the project or sell him to balance their finances. A decision is expected. The Djiga saga remains unresolved. Between Glasgow's stated desire to retain him and Wolverhampton's sporting and financial interests, the coming weeks will be decisive.”

Speaking recently of his defensive pairing, Rohl said: “I have great centre-backs available at the moment,” said Rohl. “I think everyone is ready. For me, Nasser played an outstanding game. Both of them, Manny and Nasser, were really strong. They won every one-on-one duel. We could play a high-line because they are very quick and also calm on the ball. Then I have John, who gives the group an experience. This is great. This is good to have.”
