Danny Rohl succeeds with Rangers transfer masterstroke as 'crucial' advantage emerges in title race

Rangers are in the title race for the Scottish Premiership along with Hearts and Celtic

Ex-Rangers player Lee McCulloch has hailed Danny Rohl’s recruitment in January. The Gers delved into the market earlier this winter to bring in the likes of Ryan Naderi, Andreas Skov Olsen and Tuur Rommens, among others. They made some smart signings last month and are now battling it out for the title.

The Glasgow giants are back in action this weekend as they look to close the gap on Hearts. They take on rivals Celtic at Ibrox. Rohl’s men are sat in 2nd place in the table.

Rangers recruitment hailed by Lee McCulloch

Former Rangers man McCulloch was impressed by their signings in the last window and has delivered his verdict, as per The Scottish Sun: "Danny Rohl is calmness personified. It struck me the moment he arrived. You listen to his press conferences, you watch him interact with the players, and you see how he handles himself on the touchline. Nothing seems to fluster him and that has helped drive up the confidence levels again.

“The job he took on when he first arrived was massive, sometimes that's forgotten. The team had lost its way and he needed to find a way to win? and quickly. Fans were unhappy after the start to the season, and there were protests inside and outside the ground almost every match. The manager had to juggle all of that and then bring everyone together. Somehow, he's done that, and that's credit to him and his coaching staff. They have done a remarkable job to get Rangers to where they are."

He added: “There are always going to be bumps in the road, but the manager recruited really well in January with all the signings making an impact. Home advantage could be crucial, and there's no reason why Rangers shouldn't be confident ahead of both games. Of course, they can't afford to look beyond Sunday. Right now it's very much a case of one game at a time.

“Every match is like a cup final for the teams still in the mix for the title. If you take your eye off the ball and look towards what's coming next, that's when you'll slip up. But the manager is so focused that I know he won't allow that to happen. There's a real focus among the players too, which is really encouraging to see. The fans will have a huge part to play, and I've no doubt they will be behind Danny and the lads right from kick-off. From a Rangers point of view, everyone is ready."

Can Rangers win the Scottish Premiership title?

Rangers dropped points in their last league outing against Livingston. Nevertheless, they fought back from 2-0 down to secure a point. Rohl will want his side to stay consistent over the coming weeks and keep their performance levels high.

The Gers turned to the German last year after their decision to part ways with Russell Martin. He has since adapted well to life in Scotland and has done an eye-catching job. His team are set up well and can play some attractive football.

Prior to his move, Rohl worked down in England at Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls took a gamble on him back in October 2023 when they were in a relegation battle. The ex-Bayern Munich and Southampton coach subsequently kept them up against the odds and then had them flirting with the play-offs last term before heading out the exit door at Hillsborough.
