Aberdeen are apparently interested in the former Livingston and Queen of the South loanee.

The summer transfer window officially opens soon and it is expected to be one that sees significant change take place at Ibrox.

Rangers confirmed over the weekend that five first team players were leaving the club with their current contract now having expired. Borna Barasic, Kemar Roofe, Ryan Jack, John Lundstram and Jon McLaughlin are now all free agents as Philippe Clement begins to rebuild his first team squad.

Those five players may not be the only one who departs the Glasgow club this summer though with another first team star seemingly on his way out. According to a recent report from the Daily Record, goalkeeper Robby McCrorie has rejected the offer of a new contract with Rangers.

The 26-year old came through the Ibrox club’s academy and has gained first team football experience with several loans spells including at the likes of Livingston and Queen of the South. He has also represented Scotland up to under 21 level and even been called up to the senior men’s squad without receiving a cap.

However, he has never bee first choice at Ibrox and has played understudy to Alan McGregor and now Jack Butland in recent seasons. It now looks like he feels he has no other choice but to leave his boyhood club in order to play regularly.

An apparent Ibrox ‘source’ has said: “Robby believes he has waited long enough and listened to so many promises from previous managers and coaches and it could be his loyalty to the club has not helped him. We have tried again to persuade him to stay by offering to increase his wages if he’ll extend his contract but he insists he has to leave the is to fulfil his ambitions. Robby has never let us down and if he leaves he will be a loss because he is an extremely talented keeper. Rangers are desperate to hold on to him he says he has to move on now."

Although he may not be playing regularly the 26-year old does fill an important role in the Rangers’ squad. That is not just as a strong back-up to Butland but also as a ‘home grown’ players, a quota of which all clubs need to meet when registering for European competitions and something Rangers are light on at the moment.

Although clearly reluctant to let the stopper leave the Gers’ may struggle to keep a hold oh him especially with recent transfer speculation crediting Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen with an interest. McCrorie’s brother Ross made the move from Ibrox to Pittodrie and had great success and Robby would expect to become first choice stopper at the North East club with Dutchman Kelle Roos now out of contract and showing no signs of agreeing a new deal.
