Rangers star 'one step away' from Ibrox transfer exit as price tag and contract details become clear
Attacker has fallen out of favour in recent seasons
Rangers midfielder Nedim Bajrami is ‘one step away’ from join Saudi Pro League side Al-Taawoun for a reported fee of around £2.5m.
The 27-year old has been in and out of the team since signing from Sassuolo in 2024 and is now headed for the exit door. He signed for the Light Blues after a strong European Championships with his native Albania but has struggled for minutes in Glasgow despite coming with a big reputation. Saudi interest emerged earlier in the window for Bajrami - who still has two years left on his Ibrox contract.
Former Rangers boss Philippe Clement was an admirer of Bajrami - who could play as both an attacking midfielder or out wide. It was he who signed him and played him the most often during the 2024/25 season. However under last season’s boss Danny Rohl, his minutes dried up and now under Derek McInnes, his place in the starting XI doesn’t look as if it’ll be reclaimed any time soon.

Bajrami ‘one step away’ from Saudi switch
Al Taawoun came sixth last season in the Saudi Pro League and are looking to strengthen their attacking numbers for the upcoming campaign. According to Nicolo Schira: “Nedim Bajrami is one step away from joining Al-Taawoun from Rangers FC for €3M (£2.5m). Ready a contract until 2029.”
Bajrami started his career at Swiss Super League side Grasshoppers in the country of his birth before making the Italian switch to Empoli then Sassuolo. He came to Rangers after scoring the fastest ever goal in the European Championships at the 2024 edition, when he netted after just 23 seconds in a 2-1 defeat. Overall during his time at Ibrox, he’s scored seven goals in 63 appearances so far - the most notable of which came in the 2024 League Cup final against Celtic.

Gers to become even lighter in key area
Losing Bajrami would leave Rangers even lighter on wide options, with Findlay Curtis and Djeidi Gassama the only real first team options in this area. Northern Irishman Ross McCausland has recently returned from his Aris Limassol loan spell and doesn’t look to be a part of the first team picture. The 23-year old has been the subject of EFL League One side Luton Town.
New boss Derek McInnes has outlined the need for wingers, particularly on the right after the club sold Finnish wide man Oliver Antman to Anderlecht for £4m. Former loanee Vaclav Cerny has been identified as an ambitious target given his current high wages at Besiktas, while Coventry City’s Jahnoah Markelo and Brighton’s Amario Cozier-Duberry are also being monitored.
