Rangers transfer interest in Premiership rival claimed as attacking reinforcement could come close to home
The Dundee United winger is enjoying his short term spell on Tayside
Rangers could be ‘sniffing’ around in the summer for Troyes winger Amar Fatah, who is currently on loan at Dundee United, it’s been claimed.
The 22-year old has been in fine form since making the switch from the north of France to Tayside, scoring eight goals and registering three assists in his 30 appearances thus far. However, manager Jim Goodwin recently confirmed he’ll play no further part in the season through a ‘serious’ hamstring injury.
Rangers are fairly well-stacked on the flanks at this point in time, however when Tottenham loanee Mikey Moore moves back to North London in the summer, he will leave big shoes to fill. As boss Danny Rohl is now tasked with replacing Moore, perhaps the Sweden under-21 international, who now has experience of the Scottish game, could be a candidate.
Rangers ‘sniffing’ for Dundee United man
PLZ Soccer host Peter Martin claimed on the show that he’s heard Rangers will be ‘sniffing’ around for Fatah at the end of the season, once he returns to parent club Troyes. Fatah previously had loan spells at Lommel SK in Belgium and Willem II in the Netherlands, but he’s acclimatised to the Scottish game much better.
His unique tall stature mixed with close dribbling ability out wide has caused problems for all sorts of defences this season in the league, including the Gers, who he’s scored twice against. The winger has been their main contributor of goals alongside Liverpool loanee Luca Stephenson, who is also reportedly on Rangers’ radar. Despite this, Goodwin confirmed he is now in the treatment room, as both he and Fatah’s United careers appear to be over.
Goodwin confirms ‘serious’ blows for Rangers targets
He said: “It’s part and parcel of the game of course, we are disappointed for Amar (Fatah) and Luca (Stephenson). They have been incredibly important players for us over the course of the season and it’s not how we wanted either of their campaigns to end. But that’s where we are. They are both relatively serious injuries but, while I wouldn’t like to put an exact timeframe on their recovery, surgery won’t be required.”
As Rohl begins to look for potential additions out wide, Rangers are still fairly well-covered with their current crop of wingers, however whether they can add the same quality as Moore is another matter. Djeidi Gassama, Oliver Antman and Nedim Bajrami are all already in the building but none have been able to emulate the consistency levels of the 18-year old. Findlay Curtis will return from his Kilmarnock loan spell at the end of the season and after recently earning his first Scotland cap, looks the prime candidate to make the left wing position his own.
