Rangers chances of transfer moves for Celtic target and former Sheffield Wednesday star rated
A star on the Celtic transfer radar and a Wrexham ace are linked to Rangers this summer.
Rangers’ next moves after the signing of Lawrence Shankland have been assessed - including a Celtic target and Danny Rohl’s claimed desire of a Sheffield Wednesday reunion.
Scotland striker Shankland has swapped Premiership rivals Hearts for his boyhood club and he isn’t the only top flight star Rangers like. Midfielder Elliot Watt has attracted admiring glances from the Light Blues and Celtic after excellent work at Motherwell while former Rangers attacker Josh Windass is also a rumoured target. He’s now at Wrexham and worked with Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday.
Dan Neil is also linked following a loan from Sunderland to Ipswich Town. In an update on Watt and Windass, a move for the latter is not deemed likely, while Neil’s possibly Rangers switch may have an impact on Motherwell advances.
Who could Rangers sign this summer transfer window?
Reporting in the Rangers Review states: “Another domestic option is Motherwell midfielder Elliot Watt. He is one of the options Rangers are considering as Rohl seeks to address the No.6 position. As it stands, there has been no transfer bid sent to Fir Park for a player who was a standout in a successful season for the Steelmen.
“The Watt situation could hinge on Dan Neil’s decisions this summer. The 24-year-old was a target during the winter window before he moved from Sunderland to Ipswich Town and he is now back on the radar ahead of the expiry of his Black Cats contract. He has interest from Premier League clubs in England, though, and it is understood that Rangers are not close to an agreement to bring him to Glasgow as it stands.
“Another player that was touted for a deal in January was Josh Windass. The Rangers Review reported at that stage that the midfielder was not in line for a return to Ibrox and he remained with Wrexham for the rest of the campaign. Reports in England earlier this week indicated that Windass was on the agenda. The Rangers Review understands that is not the case and the chances of Windass joining for a second stint have been dismissed by Ibrox sources.”
Why has Lawrence Shankland signed for Rangers?
Speaking on his move to Rangers, Shankland told club media: “I am delighted to get this opportunity, it feels like a long time coming to be honest, the amount of times I’ve been rumoured with it, but I am just delighted to get it done and to be a Rangers player. A lot of hard graft has gone in to get to this point, and I want to come here and be a successful Rangers player.
I’ve just had to remain focused on my job at hand, but obviously, when I heard the interest was real this week, I was really keen to get it done. Rangers is my boyhood club, and it has always been a dream to play here. The club is in a position where they want to get back to winning silverware more regularly. I want to be a big part of that, and that's what I come here to do.”
