Rangers transfer target 'to move on' from Leeds United as possible replacement could open Ibrox door
Rangers have been linked with a move to signing the Leeds United player.
A Rangers transfer target is reportedly set to leave Leeds United this summer - with a replacement in the wings.
Both the Ibrox and Elland Road sides are owned by 49ers Enterprises so it is perhaps not surprising that links between the pair transfer-wise have emerged. Joe Gelhardt has been tipped to swap Leeds for Rangers once his loan at Hull City ends, but another striker in that frame is Joel Piroe, reportedly attracting Light Blues and Middlesbrough attention.
He has fallen through the pecking order of ranking under boss Daniel Farke and interest in Burnley striker Zian Flemming is only going to push him further down it. Transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke claims Piroe will now likely leave Leeds United this summer amid the Rangers noise and Flemming’s possible arrival.
Will Joel Piroe leave Leeds United this summer?
He told The Transfer Insider Podcast: “We expect the likes of Joel Piroe to move on from Leeds, and potentially others. Flemming has proved that he can score goals in the Premier League and that’s probably why you’ve got Leeds and others looking at him. Leeds could be a good fit for him because they will look to strengthen their attacking options in the summer.”
Former Aberdeen, Aston Villa and Everton CEO Keith Wyness previously tipped Piroe as one way the 49ers could spark a connection between their clubs when it comes to the market. He said: “Nothing has really happened in terms of the Leeds and Rangers connection yet, but this could be the window where something happens.
“There’s one or two potential players that Rangers and Leeds should be starting to look at, that makes sense and is a benefit to both clubs. Piroe is one that I think could well be a potential to go. If it fits both clubs that, Leeds feel they’re oversupplied in that area and Rangers think that they’re undersupplied in that area, then it could be done quite easily, and it should be done quite easily. That [Piroe to Rangers] is one that has big potential of working. If not that one, there’ll be something happening this summer in that sort of connection.”
Danny Rohl on Falkirk 2-5 Rangers
Rangers ended their Premiership campaign in third and their final game of the season in a 5-2 win over Falkirk. Boss Danny Rohl said: : "We had a fast start, which was great, but then we let the opponent back. But after that we did well, at the end of a long season. It was great to see a couple of academy players on the pitch at the end. They deserve it.
"We want to create our own players from our academy. They have the identity of Rangers and it was a good step but nothing more. In some moments (this season) we were close to being competitive to win the league but finally we were four defeats away so that's something we have to change.
"That means we have to change things on and off the pitch, and that's what we will prepare and go forward with. When you look to the squad we have loan players (so there will be changes), but I won't speak about a number but we need some changes."
