Rangers told two areas that must be addressed in January transfer window as recruits must hit key demand

Rangers are heading into an important January transfer window.

Rangers have been urged to make signings in two key areas of the park - but all recruits must meet a certain Ibrox criteria this January.

Danny Rohl has arrived at Ibrox and while the football has not been pretty, the new head coach has made a habit of winning games. A 1-0 win over in-form Motherwell at Ibrox moved them into third in the Premiership ahead of hosting St Mirren and facing Celtic in the Old Firm this week.

Much of their hopes hinge on the January transfer window and what they can do to repair deficincies in their ranks. Former players Cammy Bell and Kenny Miller debated what Rangers needed to do next month on Superscoreboard over the weekend, with the latter believing that no matter who comes in the door, they must be players who can come in and make an instant impact if title glory is to be sought.

Kenny Miller on Rangers signings in January

He said: “Under Danny Rohl, that's what Rangers have managed to do. They have found a way to win games again. His domestic record. It is pretty good and there is no doubt Rangers need reinforcements in January. There will be reinforcements and they need to be ones that are going to come in like Hugh Keevins said, and hit the ground running.

“They need to be hits. Rangers can't afford to sign three or four players and one or two of them are actually making a difference. They need to be signing three or four guys that are going to help these current players because if they can get three or four that are going to come in and start or at least push the guys like your Aasgaard’s, like your Connor Barron’s, like your Gassama’s or your Mikey Moore’s and make them better because they've got a challenge.

“Then absolutely it's going to have been worthwhile and they're going to have a squad that could potentially go and challenge for a title. At this moment in time they don’t so they need reinforcements.

Where will Rangers look to sign in January

Bell meanwhile reckons it’s the striker and centre-back departments that Rangers are in need of bolstering their ranks. He added: “Listen, you're looking at the striker department because again, there's not enough goals coming from that department. So again, they have spent a lot of money obviously, on Chermiti and Miovski is there as well.

“So they've spent money but it's just not worked out. They've not got the return from them two guys that they were expecting and there's other areas that you mentioned defensively.

“I think they just need to get players but I think centre half, when you look at the two centre halves they're having to play at this moment in time, it has been a bit of an issue. But listen, I think what Danny Rolls done since he's came in is he's won games. That is what was asked of him. It might not be pretty but Saturday was a big win.”
