Scotland star has '300 ticket requests a week' at Rangers as Ibrox ace in 'cheeky' message with poignant twist
The Scotland international holds Rangers close to heart.
One Rangers star has sent a ‘cheeky’ message to a Scotland star who holds the Premiership side close to his heart.
Kenny McLean has been linked with a move to Ibrox in the past, who he grew up supporting, and spent time with in his youth days. He’s spent since 2018 at Norwich City and recently surpassed 300 games for the Canaries with a clutch of ex-teammates sending video messages of congratulations to him.
One of those is Max Aarons, now at Rangers, and who featured with McLean at the English Championship side. He said the star who scored the goal that’s sent Scotland to the World Cup this summer is always on the phone for tickets at Rangers matches, ending his note with his thanks for the midfielder.
What Scotland star supports Rangers?
Aarons said in a video message to McLean on BBC Norfolk’s The Scrimmage: “I think the only negative I can is that now I am here at Rangers, that I get about 300 ticket requests a week from you. It’s not even for you or your family, it’s for random people! Anyways, apart from that, you should be so proud.
“One of the best leaders I have played with and an amazing captain. Congratulations mate and I think retirement should come soon.”
McLean laughed as he joked in response ‘He would be the one that would say something cheeky, but I make a few quid on those tickets he gives me!’ The midfielder has been reflecting on his time south of the border at Carrow Road, where he now works with ex-Rangers boss Philippe Clement.
Kenny McLean on time at Norwich
He told the Pink Un: “I've achieved a lot, but it's not something that I can sit here and reminisce over what I've done. I want to do more for this football club. I want to improve as a player, as a person. I want to help the people around me, and I want to get back to the Premier League.
“That's what I want to do, and that's what the manager came in on his first day, and he asked everybody, ' Where do you want to play? Everybody says Premier League, but it's easy to say it. It's about going and doing it. That's where we're at as a club. We want to go to the Premier League. We want to sustain that. It's about going and doing it and helping everybody to do it.
“I hope I show the fans my appreciation with my performances and what I give for this football club. When they sign my name and stuff like that, anybody who tells you it's not amazing would be lying to you. I'm not somebody who wants to always be in the limelight. I would rather push somebody else forward and give them that.
“But I appreciate them. Everything they've done for me, tough times. I've had a lot here. Eight years I've been here now, brought my kids up here, out on the streets. The love that I get is always amazing. Hopefully, I continue to do as much as I can for this football club because it is theirs and we're only here for a short time. We can only try to leave it in a better place than what we got it. That's what I'll always do. I hope they appreciate that because I definitely appreciate them.”
