Ticket prices for Old Firm Scottish Cup clash revealed as Rangers and Celtic set to receive history-making windfall

As the eye-opening ticket prices are revealed both clubs are set to earn record-breaking figures from gate receipts alone.

As the ticket prices are revealed for the first Old Firm Scottish Cup quarter final in 15 years, the match has already been dubbed the most ‘lucrative’ in the tournament’s history.

As per the traditional rules of the Scottish Cup, Celtic were allowed to ask for up to 20% of the Ibrox allocation for the fixture and by reclaiming the full Broomloan Stand for the first time since 2018, they received a hefty chunk of their request.

The match a week on Sunday is the second of an Old Firm double header, as the sides will face this weekend in the league. With a place at Hampden at stake, with neither side guaranteed any trophies this season, the importance of the quarter final tie cannot be understated.

Ticket prices announced for Old Firm quarter-final

Rangers announced that an adult ticket would cost £53 for the quarter-final clash, while concessions would set supporters back £43. While the high prices of tickets have caused outrage alone, some of the Broomloan stand season ticket holders will have to go without a ticket for the Celtic clash as the stadium doesn’t hold enough to re-allocate all of them to a new seat.

A Rangers statement read: "If you have a season ticket anywhere in the Broomloan Stand, whether you are on CCCS or not, you will NOT automatically be allocated a ticket, and MUST purchase an alternative in the seat movers sales windows noted below, subject to availability.”

In return for Rangers giving Celtic the full Broomloan Stand, the Govan side will expect to revert back to their 9,000 allocation at Celtic Park if an away cup tie was drawn. The last time Celtic had the full stand at Ibrox, they won 3-2 with 10 men.

Rangers and Celtic to receive gate receipt windfall

According to the Daily Record: “Rangers and Celtic will share more than £2.5million in gate receipts from the most lucrative Scottish Cup tie in history next week with Celtic taking 37 per cent under Scottish Football Association rules.”

This means that Celtic would bank nearly £1million from the Ibrox clash, which is almost double what the eventual winner will achieve in May, adding an extra incentive to what is already a must-win game for both sides.

With Hearts, Motherwell and Hibs all already out of the competition, the winner a week on Sunday will be clear favourite to go all the way in the competition. Elsewhere, Falkirk host Dundee United in the only other all-Premiership clash. Neil Lennon’s Dunfermline Athletic will face Aberdeen at East End Park, while St Mirren will host Partick Thistle after the Old Firm on Sunday.
