It’s Premier Sports Cup football for Rangers and Celtic this weekend with eyes on a showpiece Hampden berth.

Celtic have booked that spot in next month’s final with a 6-0 blitzing of Aberdeen, who were unbeaten domestically coming into the game. Kyogo, Daizen Maeda’s hat-trick, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Nicolas Kuhn made sure of a thumping win to remember.

For Rangers, they now need to wait and see if they can get past Motherwell to make the showpiece match in December. Next up for Celtic is RB Leipzig in the Champions League and Olympiacos are the challenge for Celtic in the Europa League. Here’s some of the latest headlines surrounding the Glasgow pair.

Tottenham star’s Rangers message

Tottenham midfielder Archie Gray can’t wait to face Rangers in the Europa League. A boyhood Celtic fan, he has been keeping up to date with results in the Premiership, and is looking forward to testing himself at Ibrox.

He said: "Especially watching Celtic and supporting them a little bit you always look for the Rangers game. The chance to play at Ibrox is a special thing and I can't wait for it.

"I have been to one (Old Firm) and it wasn't at Ibrox. They're brilliant games and I love them every single time. Even on TV they're just as good to watch."

Humble Dons admission

Jimmy Thelin held his hands up after Aberdeen were dismantled by Celtic. He has landed plenty of plaudits after going unbeaten early in his Pittodrie reign and talk of a title challenge has been afoot, but this shows them what they must overcome for that feat to happen.

Speaking post-match, Thelin said Aberdeen won’t seek excuses, rather try and learn from Celtic in how they operate. He said: “If you want to be a team like Celtic who play in European matches, these cup games, we have to get used to this environment.

“The only way to do it is to be there. Now we have to try again, refocus, don’t try and find excuses. Just how we can learn and improve from this game.”
