Two Rangers signings win acclaim as star holds 'marauding forward' power and ace branded 'big driving force'
Two Rangers signings have impressed a former player and coach at Ibrox.
A pair of Rangers signings have impressed a former coach and player at Ibrox after their latest displays.
Tuur Rommens started at left-back and Tochi Chukwuani was pitched into midfield during a key 4-2 Premiership win over league leaders Hearts, inspired by a Youssef Chermiti hat-trick. It moves them within two points of the league leaders ahead of facing Livingston on Sunday, and Partick Thistle coach Alex Rae liked what he viewed of Rommens and Chukwuani after their arrivals last month.
Rae coached at Ibrox in the Philippe Clement era and played for the club as a player. He feels Rommens adds a new element in attack while Chukwuani brings a new-found engine in the midfield room.
What Rangers signings have impressed?
Rae told PLZ: “I actually like the boy Rommens. I like the way he goes about his business. He is very efficient; just goes about marauding forward. But it is interesting because Rangers kind of played a little bit narrower with the two wider guys which freed up the flanks. I think they got a lot of joy particularly in the first half, Dujon Sterling was getting down that side, Rommens give and go.”
“I was impressed with the actual set-up with the way Rangers went because it is interesting, you are always, ‘well how are they going to approach this?’ And he almost went with a 4-4-2, Ryan Naderi just coming off of Chermiti. I also thought Chukwuani in the middle of the park was quite impressive as well, he looks as if he is a big driving force. Again these guys are young players, so I think there is development to be had in them.”
Rohl meanwhile was simply delighted with three points after a big team effort. He said: “It was an exceptional performance from my players. I think we showed big personality after two presents that we gave them. We came back and fully deserved the win.
Danny Rohl on Rangers 4-2 Hearts
“We were the better team over the 94 minutes. I felt from the first minute that we were good in the game and then we gift them the first present. But that can happen in football. It’s all about the next action, about the reaction, and we done really well. I'm happy and proud of the group, but we know as well that it’s all about the next game against Livingston in seven days.
“We need the next three points and we’ll go again and again. We spoke before the game that big games are for big teams. In big games you need big players, and Youssef showed against Celtic that he can score in big games and today he showed that too.
“Youssef deserves a lot of credit. It’s easy to criticise him for this or for that, but today he was outstanding. However, let’s speak about the team, about us as a club and group. It wasn’t just a single person; we won as a group. The players from the bench reacted well. For the fourth goal Djeidi Gassama needs to wait a long time, but then he makes it and it’s outstanding. I like how we reacted after the small setbacks in the game, that we stuck together which is important.
