Reported Rangers target Kwame Poku has the ‘ability’ to play at the ‘highest level’, according to former Peterborough United defender Guy Branston. The Gers are being linked with a move for the League One ace, as per a report by Football Insider.
Poku, who is 23-years-old, is being tipped for a bright future in the game. The Posh will face a battle to keep hold of him down the line.

Branston believes Poku will move on from London Road soon and has written in The Football League Paper (24.11.24, page 39): “Can Kwame Poku play in the Premier League? Why not? I’ve certainly seen worse players at that level. Pre-weekend, the Peterborough United winger, 23, had scored ten league goals in 15 games this season and he is almost certain to leave London Road when his contract expires at the end of the season. I actually had a couple of clubs in Saudi and the UAE ring me up to ask about him, which shows that his talent is flagging up arond the world.
“He’s got the ability to play at the highest level, and I’ve said that for a long time. At the same time, he’s got a lot to learn and I’d say a top-half Championship club is probably the next logical step. Peterborough will be disappointed that he has chosen not to sign a new deal, but you have to be sensible.
“Poku’s clearly proved he’s better than the level and the fact is that he could earn double or treble what he is on in League One. And don’t you worry about Peterborough. He’s been offered a contract and they’ll be entitled to compensation so I’m sure (director of football) Barry Fry will make a mint.”

Hide AdPoku has been on the books at Peterborough since 2021 and has become one of their most prized assets. His contract expires at the end of the campaign and he is due to become a free agent in June 2025 as things stand.
The Londoner has made 133 appearances in all competitions for the Posh to date. He has scored 28 goals, 10 of which have come this term.
Poku started out in non-league with spells at Cray Wanderers and Worthing. Colchester United threw him a Football League lifeline in 2019 and he spent two years in Essex before Peterborough came calling and he has since flourished under the guidance of Darren Ferguson.
When recently asked about links to Rangers and others, Ferguson said: “We’ve had speculation about our players in all my time here. And I see it as a good thing because if no-one is talking about your players it means you’re not doing very well as a team. That speculation is only going to crank up in January and clearly I will have to manage the situation regarding certain players.”
