The gaffer believes his side are in good shape as the upcoming season looms.

He said: “It’s been slow and steady progress for us, and I can see improvements each week.

“Our last few games have been against some Premier League sides and we haven’t looked out of place at all.

“We’ve only lost the games by the odd goal, but the win against Broxburn was well-deserved.”

He added: “We’ll be looking to trim the squad down over the next few weeks to make sure every place is competitive.”

Maxwell confirmed that youngster Jamie Hamill has been released from the club.
