Shettleston’s defeat by Hurlford on Monday night meant that Stewart Maxwell’s side - already safe from automatic relegation from the Super League Premier Division - was also spared the prospect of a relegation play-off.

Rabs’ survival, meeting the target set at the start of the season, means they could go into Wednesday night’s Central League Cup second round tie against Renfrew at Guy’s Meadow in a more relaxed frame of mind.
And it paid off as they defeated the Central First Division champions 3-0 with goals from Graham Barbour, Lee Gallacher and Gavin Mackie to book a quarter-final tie with Bellshill Athletic - who have just been relegated from the Super League First Division - at home next Wednesday.

Next up for the Kirkintilloch side is a home league match with Scottish Cup finalists Beith on Saturday.
