The first '˜Old Firm' clash of the new season came to Allan Glens Rugby Club last week for the first of what will now be an annual fixture of Rangers and Celtic supporters within the club.

The match was played in honour of former committee member, sponsor and local businessman Gregg Letham who sadly passed away last year with cancer.

Both teams were made up of former and current Allan Glens RFC and Glasgow Harp FC players and complimented with a few guest players.

Rangers supporters had Allan Glens Scotland Glasgow Warriors and Barbarians legend Al Kellock playing for them and the Celtic fans had ex-Celtic and Partick Thistle legend Gerry Britton on their side.

The match was played in glorious sunshine and in a true sportsmanship manner.

The final score was 2-2 and the Gregg Letham Trophy was presented to both managers - Celtic boss Peter McLean and his Rangers counterpart Iain Gray - by Daisy Letham.

More importantly the day raised £1,300 for Cancer Research.

Peter McLean said: “It was a fantastic game and my players were outstanding and can’t wait to play this game again next season.

And Iain ‘Panda’ Gray added: “The amount of money raised on the day was overwhelming and we would like to thank everyone for supporting this event.”
