St Mirren midfielder Sam Foley among new recruits at Motherwell

Motherwell have been busy mustering reinforcements during the transfer window that ended this week as new boss Graham Alexander plots a move away from the lower reaches of the Premiership table.

Midfielder Sam Foley has joined ’Well for the rest of the current campaign on a permanent deal, and he’s accompanied by a hat-trick of loan signings – forward Jordan Roberts and defenders Eddie Nolan and Tyler Magloire.

Alexander believes Foley’s extensive experience, the 34-year-old having totted up almost 500 appearances over the last 13 years, will prove invaluable as he looks to guide his side to safety.

“It’s great to finally get Sam over the line,” he said.

“We’re looking for players who suit how we want to play and improve the strength of our group.

“Sam has the ability, experience and motivation to help us and we look forward to working with him.”

Foley, at the Paisley team since August 2019, had previously played for Yeovil Town, Shrewsbury Town, Port Vale and Northampton Town.

Magloire, 22, arrives from English Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

“We needed competition for the right side of defence and Tyler will provide that,” said Alexander.

“He ticks those boxes of what we are looking for. We’ve spoken to people at Blackburn Rovers, who rate him highly, and he’s got experience playing regularly this season in a winning team.

“We hope he can now make the step up in level for the rest of the season and make a contribution.”

Magloire has previously been loaned out to Rochdale and Hartlepool United followed, with the defender making 10 appearances with the latter after joining in November last year.

Republic of Ireland international Nolan, 32, also previously with Blackburn Rovers, comes to Fir Park from Crewe Alexandra.

“Eddie is a vastly experienced defender and we’re glad to have him,” said Alexander. “I’ve faced him many times with my previous teams and know what he will bring.”

Hertfordshire-born Roberts, 27, arrives from Hearts after joining the Edinburgh side from Ipswich Town in the summer.
