A spectacular strike from United’s James Steele midway through the second half of this league fixture secured a great point for the Cumbernauld men.

It was no more than the visitors deserved, after a great effort against the league leaders, especially after losing skipper Tony Fraser to injury early in the second period.

With Ross Foley, Scott Upton and Jake Fitzgerald unavailable through injury, United were delighted to welcome back Ryan Haxton whose job had taken him up north for a spell.

The playing pitch at Portland Park, Troon, has been the envy of juniordom as it is of bowling green quality this season. This special surface, on a lovely afternoon, made for good football and this was what the good attendance enjoyed from both teams.
