In a scrappy first half Pollok had the best of the few goalmouth chances that were created, wide-man Tam Hanlon stinging the palms of ex-’Lok goalkeeper JC Hutchison.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the 59th minute after Davie Winters was felled in the penalty box.

The striker dusted himself down and, despite Hutchison getting a hand to the ball, made no mistake to give the visitors the lead.

The advantage was doubled in the 72nd minute when Kieran McAleenan’s cross was met by the unmarked Allan MacKenzie who nodded home from close range.

Glencairn’s task was made more difficult in the 85th minute when substitute Gavin Ross picked up a second booking for a late clip on Giuseppe Capuano, having been booked earlier for simulation, allowing Pollok a relatively comfortable ride to the final
whistle.

League business is put to one side for the next two weeks as cup competitions begin in earnest.

First up for Pollok is the West of Scotland Cup, Thorniewood United providing the opposition in the opening round.

The tie is at Newlandsfield on Saturday with a 2pm kick off.
