But Aberdeen hit back and ’Well keeper Claire Johnstone made a good stop from Amy Phillips.

Then, against the run of play, Hayley Cunningham made it two goals to Motherwell on the stroke of half-time when she scored direct from a corner.

Motherwell increased their lead in the second half when Mulvey made it 3-0 in the 57th minute when she scored after Megan Burns’ head flick.

The fourth goal eventually came in the 71 st minute with Mulvey bagging her second goal of the match.

A mix-up at the back for the Dons saw the defence leaving the bouncing ball to the keeper, but Mulvey managed to get in between the defender and the keeper to nod it into an empty net and all but secure the win for the visitors.

Aberdeen had another great chance later in the match with Natasha Bruce coming just millimetres from grabbing a goal back.

Substitute keeper Kendall Welsh rushed out to retrieve the loose ball, but Bruce managed to stick a foot in first and her effort spun just wide of the post.

In the end it was a well fought three points for Motherwell who go another step closer to breaking the league points record.
