Young footballers from Motherwell set to head to Holland

A boys’ football club from Motherwell is excited to be heading to play in Holland, as long as coronavirus restrictions permit it

The Motherwell Phoenix 08 football team will be taking part in the Brabant football tournament.

All 20 team members will be involved in a number of matches over the two-day tournament, with the boys competing against teams all over the world, and are the only North Lanarkshire team who are taking part

A club spokesman said: “The team are so looking forward to this experience, it has been a difficult time for the whole of Youth Football.

“Our team was just about to take the big step up to 11-a-side football when lockdown started, they missed nearly six months of playing and developing and having fun with their team mates and hopefully this opportunity gives them something to look forward to.

“They have all worked really hard both during lockdown and since training and games have restarted. We have an excellent group of boys, with vast majority together since their primary school years. This will be a great opportunity to play abroad against different teams.”

The team are now looking for local businesses to sponsor the trip to Holland - and anyone who can help is asked to contact the Motherwell Phoenix Facebook page.
