Forth Wanderers promoted

Jason Corbett’s injury time strike earned Forth a 2-1 home Central Division 2 triumph over East Kilbride Thistle which sent Jamie and his players into raptures.

“I’m delighted to go up,” Jamie said.

“The fashion that we won the game in made it even better.

“It was just pure joy from me when the winning goal went in with 30 seconds to go.

“It was quite emotional when I went into the dressing room after the game and saw how delighted committee men like John McCormick and Stuart Smith – people who’ve been at the club for 30 years – were.”

Forth’s promotion is a remarkable achievement given their less than remarkable start to the season.

But an astonishing 10 wins from their last 11 league games did the job in stunning fashion.

“We were a wee bit inconsistent at the start,” Jamie said.

“We really struggled and had some hard results.

“But we knew it was going to be a bumpy ride and were confident that we could put things right.

“We’ve gone on a fantastic recent run.

“There were a number of six pointers among those 11 games and we managed to win almost every one of them.”

Now just one win from Forth’s remaining two games – starting with the home game against Lanark United tonight (Wednesday) will guarantee the title for the Kingshill Park men.

“We hope to finish things off in great style against Lanark,” Jamie said.

“We want to win and then we can have a party on the last day of the season rather than it being a nailbiter.

“The fact that we’re playing a derby against Lanark might make victory even more special for our supporters, but I don’t really care who the opposition is.

“I’m just desperate to get over the line because I don’t want any pressure on us when we play our final league fixture, for which a date hasn’t been set yet.”

Forth play a home Euroscot Engineering League Cup second round tie against East Kilbride this Saturday, with Jamie saying that he will rest key players by “changing the team completely”.
