Fury rocked by Bunyan’s departure

The 23-year old Scotland international sealed the deal on a fifth straight season with the Rocks this week.

And while it’s good news for the point guard – and for local sides Glasgow Storm and the Rocks’ National League team – it’s heaped pressure onto dad John and elder brother Keith and the rest of the Clark Eriksson Fury team in Bunyan’s hometown of Falkirk who are now aiming to take a fourth successive title without their talisman.

Fury’s headcoach John Bunyan praised his son’s achievement: “It is what players strive for, to be playing in as high a league as possible, but this does not mean Fury will not be without a team that can potentially achieve honours yet again. I expect it to be another great season fin the national league.

“In saying that, clearly taking a player of Jonny’s calibre out a multi championship winning tea, but we have the ability and personnel to adjust and as I say still be successful.”

However ‘JB Junior’ was delighted to sign on at the Emirates again.

“I’m glad to be staying in Glasgow for the 2015-16 season. I feel that I made improvements to my game last season and I want to continue to work hard and contribute on the court. I am looking forward to getting back into it and making a real impact this season,” he said.

The Scottish League MVP for seasons 12-13 and 13-14, Bunyan will not return to the Scottish champions due to an age limit on split seasons for players under the age of 22.

That means it’s life in the big leagues for Bunyan, whose brother Keith has also had a spell at the Rocks where he was captain. Head coach Sterling Davis has lauded the youngest of the Bunyan brothers’ leadership skills.

Last term, the point guard was one of the leading three-point percentage shooters in the BBL, shooting an incredible 43.6 per cent from beyond the arc.

His statistics have improved across the board and big things are expected of him this season.

The first chance to see Bunyan’s Rocks return in the BBL will be on October 4 when they take on Manchester Giants at the Emirates Arena at 5pm.
