Former Hutchie pupil Malcolm replaces Hawick’s Shawn Muir who fractured his ankle in a recent training session.

Scotland under-20 head coach Sean Lineen said: “Where one door closes another opens and we’re pleased we can call on the services of James who was with us in the lead up to the 6 Nations.

“He’s delighted to have earned the call-up and is a good fit for the squad.”

Scotland under-20s first match in the IRB Junior World Championship is against Argentina on Wednesday June 5. The team will play at Stade Pascal Laporte, Nantes and kick-off at 8pm.

James Thomas Malcolm was a part of the Scotland under-20 squad for the 2013 6 Nations. He has previously represented Scotland at under-18 level.

His father Walter Malcolm captained Glasgow district in his playing days while brother Donald, his current GHA teammatem, played for Scotland under-18 and under-19.
